For many years I was fascinated by Tarot cards. They were alluring in their mystery, but they were also frightening because of the way I had been raised to perceive them. They were demonic, a forbidden dark art right out of the gates of hell.

But I flirted with the cards on and off throughout my younger years, looking to them in times of blindness, confusion, or a desire to know the outcome of things so I could avoid conclusions or consequences I didn't want. Often, it came from a place of deep fear about making a mistake, a wrong choice, or doing something for the wrong reasons. Back then I had a terror of not getting everything right.

In those days, I had no idea what Tarot cards really were, and I certainly had no idea how to understand or read them. In fact, my interactions with them often left me frustrated, and even more confused about the dilemmas I was trying to resolve.

The problem was, that I was coming to the cards with a great deal of ignorance, fear, and immaturity. It wasn't until much later in life, after I had grown more as a person, and dropped a ton of baggage from indoctrination by the church and my upbringing, that I was able to come back to the cards with open curiosity and a mind developed enough to begin to grasp exactly what they were. When that happened, it was like I was given keys to the kingdom.

Studying Therapeutic Tarot has been one of the best things I have ever done, for my own growth and self-understanding, but also as a Personal Life Coach and Counsellor. This incredibly accurate art form is similar to narrative therapy, in that it displays in coded picture form an individual's journey, their inner and outer dimensions, while also reflecting as yet unseen material.

When you come to the cards with love, respect, and a genuine desire to be revealed to yourself, and understand the events surrounding you, you have a reliable ally and mirror for what most needs to be seen, acknowledged, integrated, and actioned.
